Governor's Island opens to the public May 25, 2013 on Saturdays, Sundays, Memorial Day and Labor Day 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Governors Island is completely free to visit. There is no charge for the ferry, access to the island, or for programs conducted by the National Park Service.
The Battery Maritime Building gateway to historic Manhattan
This 140,000 sq. ft. Beaux-Arts
landmark building was completed in 1909 when ferries were still a vital means of transportation in New York City. Its many unique architectural assets include nearly 8,800 elements of cast iron, riveted rolled steel plates and angles, sheet copper ornamentations, ceramic tile and stucco paneled walls, and a copper panel mansard roof system.
Family Festival 2013 - May 25

To celebrate the Island's opening weekend, GIA invites you to the 9th annual Family Festival May 25th, from 12:00 - 4:00pm. The Family Festival welcomes thousands of children and their families to the Island on opening day with entertaining, creative, and educational activities.
Free ferries run from lower Manhattan Friday, Saturday, Sunday and all Holiday Mondays.
Governors Island is hosting an array of activites throughout the public access season.
